Let's change our attitude.

The course started on Monday for the orientation. We learned a bit more about WHAT  Bala Vikasa was doing and were informed that we would know more about the HOW they are doing it in the next four weeks. Already, everything is inspiring and sincerely motivating! We talked a little bit more about their different programs but before I get into them, I want to remind you that Bala Vikasa is helping communities helping themselves. That said, it means they are not providing them with clothes, or food, or medicines as charity organizations or humanitarian aid would do. They are providing capacities. They aren't working for the communities, the communities are working for themselves and this is why it is such a success and it is sustainable. The changes are coming from the people and the solutions are inner themselves.

Bala Vikasa is helping over 6500 villages with different programs including:
- Women’s integrated development program
- Widows emancipation program
- Orphans children program
- Helping the elders program
- Health program
- Vidya Vikasa program (This is an education program where school are provided with better facilities)
- Water program
- Food Security program

Also, Bala Vikasa is offering the PDTC program (People Development Training Center) which is the course I’m currently having. With this centre, they have the chance to share their approaches, methodologies and skills with professionals, students and government officials from everywhere in the world. The participants can LEARN more about Community Driven Development but can also SEE.

Some numbers (as you can read in their brochure):

- 215 000 women transformed as agents of change.
- 730 Community Water Purification Projects established giving access to 1.5 million people impacting good health.
- More than 15 000 widows mentored and are creating a momentum to bring social justice.
- 393 government schools have improved infrastructure providing access to quality education to 98 250 students with formation of Eco clubs.
- More than 500 farms transformed from practicing chemical farming to organic farming.

Of course, this is only an introduction to their work but I will have the chance to share with you more about their different actions so that you can be as impressed and inspired as I am! There is one thing I want to share with you right now though. Something we learned and that I wanted to explain in my own words:

Successful changes are possible. You may think the ills of our planet aren't solvable. You may think they are just too big to confront. Poverty. Hunger. Climate change. Gender equal. Humans right. Name them all.

What is the solution?

Successful changes are possible but they require more than knowledge. They require more than skills. They require more than ideas. They require more than money. They require more than power. They require a change of attitude.

Changing our attitude is the first step to successful and sustainable changes. Changing our attitude as a society, but also as human beings. This is something each of us can do. If you thought until now that you couldn't do anything to help this planet, let me just tell you this: change this attitude. I am not asking you to go in the streets and manifest. I am not asking you to go in Africa and feed the poor. I am not asking you to give all your money to charity.

I am asking you to change your attitude.

Hearty welcome from Baka Vikasa
